Head of Compliance

About the role

As Head of Compliance, you'll build and own Hawala's compliance program end-to-end — KYC/AML, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and regulatory engagement across MENA and our partner jurisdictions. You'll be a key voice in how we scale responsibly.

What you'll do

• Design, implement, and own the AML/KYC and sanctions compliance framework
• Build transaction monitoring and risk-scoring processes with the engineering team
• Manage relationships with regulators, banking partners, and auditors
• Lead SAR/CTR filings, investigations, and regulatory reporting
• Embed a culture of compliance across product and operations

What we're looking for

• 8+ years in compliance at a fintech, bank, or money transmitter
• Deep knowledge of AML/CFT regulations and cross-border payments
• Experience standing up a compliance program from the ground up
• Relevant certification (CAMS or equivalent) preferred
• Strong judgment and clear communication with regulators and leadership
